“Myanmar” is an industrial soundscape and my contribution to the latest Cities & Memory open call.

Cities & Memory’s latest open call asked sound artists to rework field recordings taken from Myanmar by contributor Tenali Hrenak.

One recording in particular from Mani Sithu Market, where people worked sewing machines amid the general chatter and hubbub, stood out to me…

My intention was to create a soundscape that portrayed the mechanisms of a machine with a human heart at the centre of it.

The original recording has been reworked, chopped up, reversed in parts, layered with effects, and welded back together again. I recorded bass guitar to accompany it, along with drums, to complement the rhythmic quality of the sewing machines.

The final result is an industrial soundscape that aims to preserve the voices of the people working in the market, and the sonance of the tools integral to their trade and livelihood.

Here’s my reimagined soundscape…

Here’s what my clients have to say about me…

Kiwani Dolean

Lead Designer, Lantum

Jase has helped us to build our new website in our big rebrand project… It was a pleasure to collaborate with him, he’s excellent at what he does and is very quick to understand what is needed. I provided him with wireframes and Sketch design files and he was able to work his magic and create something that works perfectly. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to do the job!

Róisín Haugh

Programme Director, Ogilvy

Jase was a pleasure to have at Ogilvy. He was a lovely guy, very organised, very patient and really great at the task. We would definitely get him back in. He had no issues with last minute changes or multiple rounds of feedback and even after he left he was still really helpful over email. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to do the job! Thank you, Jase.

Rosh Mahtani

We hired Jase to build the entire front end of a WordPress site for one of our high profile clients. His work was of the highest standard and he required very little supervision. He is also very easy to get along with and I know the rest of my team liked him a lot. I would not hesitate to hire him again.

Patrick Hinton
